About me

I am a pianist and soprano based in Stockport. I have been teaching piano, singing and violin for 30 years, both privately and in schools. Music is my first love and I thoroughly enjoy passing on my knowledge and passion for it to my pupils.

My history

I was born into a musical family, my parents having met at Manchester College of Music (now the RNCM). I began to pick out nursery rhymes on the piano when I was 3 and started formal piano lessons aged 6. Throughout my childhood I also learned violin, flute and French horn. I played in a local youth orchestra and sung in choirs.

I started a music performance degree at the University of Huddersfield aged 18 but struggled with the demands of university life.

I spent ten years doing secretarial work, singing in the Halle Choir and continuing to play piano in my spare time.

In my mid-twenties I felt ready to fulfil my musical potential and took my Grade 8 singing exam in 2007, then a Diploma in Piano Performance in 2008.

I started to build up a private piano teaching practice in 2008 and took the ABRSM Instrumental teaching course in 2011, specialising in piano teaching. At the end of this I also took the ABRSM Diploma in Principles of Instrumental Teaching. I began to teach in local schools, before deciding to return to the University of Huddersfield to complete my degree.

I am soon to graduate with a BMus (Hons) in Music Performance with piano and singing as my instruments.

Now

I live in Davenport, Stockport with my husband, two children, dog, two cats and six chickens! I still sing in the Halle Choir and love jogging with my labrador, Teddy.
