Singing lessons
I have been teaching singing for 15 years, both privately and in schools. Singing is proven to be very effective in improving mental health and confidence and I love seeing the progress of my students in these respects.

My approach
-
I teach singing from the age of 11 upwards.
-
I use a holistic approach, using repertoire that appeals to the taste of each individual - if they don't like it, they won't practice it!
-
I am experienced in teaching pupils with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and Irlen syndrome. Due to my own neurodiversity I am conscious of adapting lessons to the needs of all students.
-
Singing lessons are held in my spacious, dedicated music room.
-
I place a strong emphasis on vocal health and building a solid technique.
-
There is no pressure to take grade exams but if students are keen to I have a 100% pass rate with most achieving merit or distiction. I am familiar with ABRSM and Trinity London exam boards.

-
The main focus of my teaching is enjoyment.
-
Games and flashcards are used to help cement learning.
-
I hold regular pupil concerts to encourage performance confidence.
-
I am a warm and friendly teacher, but firm when required.
-
I am happy to incorporate regular sight-singing to build note-reading confidence, a useful skill when looking to join choirs.
-
Music theory is also included in lessons from the early stages to understand the 'nuts and bolts' of music in general.
-
As a working accompanist and singer I am mindful of performance anxiety and how to manage it.
I initially went to see Abi to learn how to project my voice when I changed jobs. Abi asked if I would like to learn to sing too! I have always wanted to sing but never had the confidence.

Right from my first lesson Abi made me feel confident and capable, and taught me the techniques to improve my singing. And I absolutely loved it! Left every lesson feeling amazing!

I would highly recommend Abi to anyone who would like to learn to sing or play the piano. She has so much patience and really cares about helping you.

I first met Abi before I began my first year of college, with no confidence as a pianist and barely any as a vocalist. I struggled to learn certain things in particular ways so Abi always went out of her way to teach me in ways I’d understand. I would absolutely say Abi is the most amazing singing and piano teacher I have ever had the pleasure of learning from, she has taught me so much in terms of confidence, musicianship and performance skills. I formed a lovely friendship with Abi which made learning from her so easy and I would look forward to my lesson each week. I couldn’t fault a single thing about Abi’s teaching or her wonderful personality and would recommend her time and time again, not only is she an amazing teacher she is an amazing performer herself and someone to look up to.

I had regular singing lessons with Abi for a couple of years and loved my lessons but had to stop for a couple of years due to other commitments. During my time off, I barely did any singing and lost confidence. I have recently stated having lessons with her again and have already regained my confidence and feel that I have improved, thanks to her teaching and encouragement and patience. Abi is really good at choosing songs that suit my voice type and ability level, whilst also helping me to develop my skills. She is very good at explaining techniques in ways that I can understand and actually apply to my singing. It's great that she also plays the piano as it means that she can accompany me when I sing too. I love having lessons with her and always look forward to my next lesson!
